Navigate the world. Plan the future.
Arizona State University’s (ASU) Master of Urban and Environmental Planning (MUEP) program prepares students to help solve complex social, economic, and environmental issues and create healthier, safer, and more vibrant communities. As a highly ranked and accredited graduate program, our MUEP program provides students with the theoretical foundations, professional skills, and practice-centered experience to become the next generation of urban planners. Our faculty draw from their innovative expertise in both research and practice to engage students from diverse backgrounds in award-winning projects and critical planning skills.
The MUEP program offers a unique opportunity to integrate urban and environmental aspects of planning in a rapidly developing metropolitan area. Small classes, one-on-one advising and a common core of courses that translate knowledge into practice provide students opportunities to build technical skills and grow their professional network.
As a part of the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP), the program benefits from faculty with diverse planning expertise, as well as an interdisciplinary environment with school-wide faculty in the fields of geography, GIS, and meteorology and climatology. Students have access to a wide selection of electives within the school and across ASU, such as courses that explore issues related to population and migration, environmental and landscape dynamics, and urban climate systems. Students have the opportunity to further extend their studies through a number of concurrent degree programs with the Schools of Sustainability and Public Affairs. These diverse learning opportunities are coupled with strong program partnerships with leading planning practitioners and communities across the Phoenix region.
